I love heirlooms and love to create beautiful things using quality, unique materials. I also consider where things come from, who made them and their impact on our absolutely beautiful planet! I attended art school, had my own needlework business, and owned a hair salon – and have taught classes in those three disciplines. Now I have Chalk Mercantile, my creative outlet where it all comes together in an eclectic mélange! Without the help and support of my sons and husband, Chalk would have remained a dream.
Chalk Mercantile is a shop that reflects the owner’s love of antiques, handmade local goods and beautiful decor. Founded in 2009 by Jayne Whittles, Chalk Mercantile has become a go-to destination along the Connecticut shoreline. Chalk is also host to modern lines of perfumes, soaps, jewelry, and DIY supplies including Maison Blanche Vintage Furniture Paint. If that’s not enough, Chalk Mercantile is also a gathering spot for Connecticut’s most talented and creative antique merchants and artisans. Chalk’s cast of merchants allows for a constantly changing and dynamic inventory.
Do you have some old pieces that are worthy of repurposing but you want that Chalk Mercantile “look?” We do custom work! Email us a photo of your piece along with dimensions and a brief description of the finish you’d like and we’ll get back to you with a quote.
For you DIYers, we offer Maison Blanche paint workshops that cover painting, waxing and gold leafing. Classes are catered by our neighbor Fromage (in case you’re on the fence).
Chalk is ready to provide you with the necessities, curiosities and eccentricities to turn any house into a treasured home.
